YOU’D NEVER GUESS…

I don’t like chocolate! I know, I’m probably the only person in the world who does not like chocolate.

my journey to where i am now…

I began dancing at an early age and through my dancing I progressed into becoming a classically trained actor and singer. Early on in my professional career I became a proud member of the Actors Equity Association (AEA) and went on to appear in numerous musical theatre productions across the nation.

A few years after moving to New York, I began teaching cycling at a private studio in midtown Manhattan. As a dancer, it was always very important to be physically fit and have both muscular and aerobic endurance. Due to my strong background in dance and gymnastics, I was able to seamlessly transition from teaching dance to teaching fitness. Despite having several successful years in New York, I decided I wanted a career outside of being an actor; quickly and without a second thought, I knew I wanted to go back to school to study clinical dietetics. Although I had never had the best relationship with food, I still understood its importance in living a healthy and balanced life.

While I had amazing strength and power as a dancer, my eating habits were questionable at best. I had always had curves and my physique never quite paralleled that of a classical ballet dancer. I started dieting at a young age in an effort to obtain the standard dancer body type. Over the course of many years, I developed a toxic relationship with food and would constantly yo-yo from one fad diet to another, all the while bingeing on exercise in between. My disordered eating patterns and excessive exercising continued for years until a significant life event forced me to address my unhealthy relationship with food. Going back to school and studying nutrition was a way for me to finally begin to understand proper nutrition and rebuild my relationship with food.

WHY CARTER HALL LIFESTYLE?

After making an abrupt decision to leave New York and move 3,000 miles west to Los Angeles, I dared to begin a new chapter in my life. In Los Angeles, I worked full time as a fitness instructor to pay for graduate school. Along the way I met some really amazing people who would openly share their life stories with me. I suppose being a fitness instructor in some ways is like being a therapist; people feel comfortable sharing the most raw portrait of themselves with you. I started to witness a common theme among many of my clients. Stories of exhaustion, gastrointestinal distress, weight gain/loss, brittle hair and nails, blemished skin among many other ailments flowed through the mouths of seemingly “put together/having it all” individuals and right into my soul. I knew very clearly that the sole purpose for me going back to school wasn’t to help myself, but rather to help others find alignment and positive lifestyle balance.

The mission of Carter Hall Lifestyle is to provide evidence-based content and services that can be used to balance one’s life within the area of nutrition, fitness, and wellness. Wellness requires that we look beyond only employing healthy eating practices and engagement in routine physical fitness and go deeper into exploring self-reflection and mindfulness as it pertains to our daily lives. Our objectives are to provide you services in three areas. Within the area of nutrition, we aim to provide you with services that support self-efficacy and self-management within healthy eating behaviors. By incorporating physical activity, we are encouraging all individuals to increase their daily activity in order to feel good, support weight management, and prevent chronic disease. The mind-body connection is essential in maintaining balance and alignment in one’s life, which is why Carter Hall Lifestyle will also focus on providing daily guided meditation.
